Burt Kushner, MD

Burton Kushner, MD is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. Prior to his retirement he was Director of the Pediatric Eye and Strabismus and Director of the fellowship program. Clinic He did his ophthalmology residency in that department followed by a Pediatric Ophthalmology fellowship at the Bascom Palmer eye Institute.

Dr. Kushner was Editor in Chief of the Journal of Pediatric Ophthalmology, Founding Editor and Editor in Chief of JAAPOS and currently co-Editor in Chief of the Journal of Binocular Vision and Ocular Motility. He has published over 220 peer reviewed articles, 41 textbook chapters, edited 3 textbooks and authored 2 textbooks He has trained over 50 fellows and over 150 residents. Dr. Kushner has delivered 30 named lectures including the Scobee, Bielschowksy, Jampolsky, and Costenbader Lectures. He has received numerous awards including the Heed Award, the Bressler Prize, and the Parks Bronze Medal. In 2014 Dr. Kushner was listed in “the 20 Most Innovative Pediatric Surgeons Alive” by Top Masters in Health Care Administration.
